Glossary

  • High Integrity Fastener/ Special Fastener/ Crtical Fastener - A bolt, stud or nut that requires exceptional strength for an application either through special materials, rolled threads or forging of features or combination of any or all
  • OEM - Original equipment manufacturer
  • NDT - Non destructive testing, a means of testing parts and materials for flaws or cracks, hardness, surface finsh etc. without destroying the parts and rendering it useless
  • CAD - Computer Aided Design
  • MRP - Material requirement planning, used to control, orders, shop floor loadings and material demands all handled in the background by  very complex software
  • Hot forging - a method of heating a material to a sepcific temperature via induction and forming a feature whether a head or drive or both on steel or other materials by use of a press and closed die.
  • CGF - continuous grain flow, when metal is cut around a bolt head or simlair on a lathe it leaves short grians in the material which can be weak points that may fracture. CGF overcomes this by forging the material so that the grain flow is not interupted and flows through the head of the bolt, thus offering extra bolting strength without fracture
